A formal ceremony that celebrates the integrity of the
geoscience professions

Who can attend the ceremony
Geoscientist that finish their degree by December 2024

All undergraduate students in the Department of Geoscience at the University of Calgary who will convocate in June 2024 or November 2024.

Those who will finish their programs at the end of December 2023 and will, therefore, convocate in June 2024 may attend either the Spring 2023 or Spring 2024 Earth Ring Ceremony but should attend only the Spring 2024 case study workshop (not the Spring 2023 workshop).

The ceremony is also open to any graduate students who wish to participate.

Students graduating with B.Sc. geoscience degrees from other universities and practicing geoscientists may also participate.
Student Spokesperson
One geologist and one geophysicist
You, the attendee, will be able to postulate two students (one geology and one geophysics) that will each give a five-minute speech during the ceremony.

The ring
The ring is an indication that the wearer supports the ethical principles underlying geoscience professions.
The rings are ordered by the Rundle Group from Tany's jewelry at Northland mall, they have been working with the University of Calgary for five years now. Click here for a link to their website.

The ring usually goes in the pinky of your writing hand and obtaining it is optional
The Ceremony
In-Person March 28, 2024
The ceremony is conducted by the "ring stewards" in a similar fashion to the Iron Ring Ceremony of the engineers. Student Spokespeople also take part of the ceremony, please make sure to vote for your candidates when you give the Rundle Group your forms.
